Il Monastero di San Giovanni Evangelista è un monastero benedettino che sorge nel cuore del centro storico di Parma, a pochi metri dalla Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta (Duomo di Parma).
Il complesso monastico di San Giovanni Evangelista è formato dalla Chiesa, dal Chiostro e dalla Biblioteca di San Giovanni. Le origini risalgono al X secolo, anche se è la facciata barocca a definirne l’aspetto; il campanile sul lato destro fu aggiunto nel 1613.
The monastery structure is formed with the Church, the Monastery and the San Giovanni Old pharmacy. The church was built for the Benedectine order between 1498 and 1510 but its elaborate white marble Baroque facade contrasts with the Renaissance architecture of the cloisters and convent.
Part of a medieval monastic complex built along the ancient Via Francigena, the Church of San Giovanni Evangelista in Parma dates to the early 13th century and has a Romanesque Latin cross layout, although its Baroque façade is what first strikes visitors. Six chapels open onto three naves.
