Stanley Kubrick, (born July 26, 1928, New York, N.Y., U.S.—died March 7, 1999, Childwickbury Manor, near St. Albans, Hertfordshire, Eng.), U.S. film director. He began his career as a photographer for Look magazine (1945–50). He directed two documentary films before directing his first feature film, Fear and Desire (1953).
