George F. "Chip" Johannessen is a writer and executive producer on 24.

Johannessen was born in Detroit, Michigan and attended Harvard University, where he wrote for The Harvard Lampoon, and subsequently received a Juris Doctorate from the UCLA School of Law. He later embarked on a short-lived musical career as a rock guitarist before turning his attention to writing.

Johannessen was an executive, co-, and consulting producer for many episodes of Millennium, Dark Angel, and other television series. He has written a number of television episodes for various series, and was the writer for the 2000 film The Crow: Salvation. Shortly before the first season of 24 Chip co-wrote a horror/drama pilot Ultraviolet with Howard Gordon for FOX in 2000 - it was not picked up.

He first wrote the fifth episode of 24 in the first season as a freelance assignment. He joined the writing staff late in Season 7 as a consulting producer. He eventually joined 24 full-time, in Season 8, as a co-executive producer, frequently collaborating on scripts with his former Millennium and Dark Angel colleague Patrick Harbinson. Johannessen became an executive producer on 24 during the last stretch of Season 8.

Following the end of 24, Johannessen joined Showtime's Dexter as executive producer and showrunner, working alongside fellow 24 executive producer/writer Manny Coto. Johannessen wrote the fifth season premiere, "My Bad," which aired on September 26 and became the network's highest-rated program in fifteen years. Other 24 crew members who worked on the series include director Milan Cheylov, editor David Latham, and costume designer Jim Lapidus. Gino Montesinos, Raphael Sbarge, and Peter Weller appeared in recurring roles, along with the returning Geoff Pierson. Johannessen left the series after the fifth season.

In 2011, Johannessen joined the writing staff on Homeland, created by Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa and starring Diego Klattenhoff and Navid Negahban. Other actors in Homeland include Omid Abtahi, Nazanin Boniadi, Al Faris, Tim Guinee, Mido Hamada, Donnie Keshawarz, Jonah Lotan, Dane Northcutt, Nestor Serrano, Sammy Sheik, and Maury Sterling.
