Christiane of Saxe-Merseburg (1 June 1659 - 13 March 1679), was a German noblewoman member of the House of Wettin and by marriage Duchess of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. Born in Merseburg , she was a child of Christian I, Duke of Saxe-Merseburg and his wife Christiana of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg .
Christiana was the fourth daughter, and the ninth of 15 children, [1] of Philip, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg and his wife, Sophie Hedwig of Saxe-Lauenburg. Christiana was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. She was raised by Magdalene Sibylle of Saxony, the widow of the Danish Crown Prince, at her widow seat Nyköpingshus.

He was the sixth (third surviving) son of Johann Georg I, Elector of Saxony, and his second wife, Princess Magdalene Sibylle of Prussia .
