Christopher Michael Langan was born in 1952 in San Francisco, California. His mother, Mary Langan-Hansen (née Chappelle), was the daughter of a wealthy shipping executive but was cut off from her family. His biological father died or disappeared before he was born. He began talking at six months, taught himself to read before he was four, and was repeatedly skipped ahead in school. But he grew up in poverty and says he was beaten by his stepfather from when he was almost six to when he was about fourteen.By then Langan had begun weight training, and forcibly ended the abuse, throwing his stepfather out of the house and telling him never to return. Langan says he spent the last years of high school mostly in independent study, teaching himself "advanced math, physics, philosophy, Latin and Greek, all that". His brother recalls that "when Christopher was fourteen or fifteen, he would draw things just as a joke, and it would be like a photograph. When he was fifteen, he could match Jim...

Langan's first published paper on the CTMU, "The Resolution of Newcomb's Paradox", appeared in the December 1989–January 1990 issue of Noesis, the journal of the Noetic Society, a high-IQ society to which Langan belonged. Over the next decade Langan refined his work, continuing to publish and discuss it in high-IQ journals. In 1999 Langan and his wife formed the Mega Foundation, a non-profit corporation whose mission is to "create and implement programs that aid in the development of extremely gifted individuals and their ideas." Among the foundation's programs is the Ultranet, an online high-IQ group designed to serve as a mutual support system and forum for exchange of information and development of novel ideas, with a focus on creative actualization and meaningful production. In 2002, Langan published through the Mega Foundation The Art of Knowing, a collection of essays about free will and other philosophical topics. He has reportedly written an unpublished book about the CTMU c...

Though Chris was born in San Francisco, California, he was brought up in Montana. Despite having several setbacks in his life, including a violent stepfather, poverty, indifferent teachers, Langan worked hard to become the enlightened human being he is today. When he was young, his father passed away, leaving him and his three siblings’ dependant on their mother, who was cut off from her wealthy family upon marriage. Langan was a consistently stellar academic student who made him skip several grades in school. He was regularly bullied because of which he took bodybuilding at the age of twelve. After facing indifferent teachers, who refused to help him attain more advanced study material, Langan began the study by himself and learnt advanced math, physics, philosophy, and Greek by himself. Reports say he scored a perfect SAT score despite having fallen asleep during the test. Langan attended Reed College and Montana University but dropped out due to financial and transportation probl...

Chris Langan married his wife Gina LeSasso, a clinical neurophysics, and moved to Missouri in 2004. He currently resides there while owning and working on a horse range and contributing to the Mega Foundation. Despite being married for several years, Langan made a personal choice not to have children due to several of his scientific and religious beliefs.

Being born on 25 March 1952, Chris Langan is 69 years old as of today’s date 3rd May 2021. His height is 1.78 m tall, and his weight is 78 kg.

Langan, along with several others, started his foundation called the Mega Foundation in 1999, which focuses on helping individuals with extreme intelligence and knowledge- particularly those with an IQ higher than 165. He also continues to work on his CTMU theory, which has been both appreciated and criticized by several great minds in the field of science. Apart from his intellectual pursuits, Langan is also a horse rancher and has worked several odd jobs throughout his life, including being a forest service ranger, a bouncer, a farmhand, and a cowboy.

Chris Langan was named the smartest man in America and even Smartest Man in the World by several renowned media houses and journals. He was called so because of his high IQ test scores, which were between 195-200.

Langan is often quoted as an example of how wealth and intelligence do not go hand in hand. Despite being as intelligent as several renowned scientists in the world, Chris continues to earn his keep through his ranch. As of 2021, he has gathered a net worth of $2 million. He says that he lives a sort of double-life, one where he goes about his day usually and tends to his farm and the other where he works on his intellectual and scientific pursuits. Malcom Gladwell compares Langan to Robert Oppenheimer in his book, Outliers where he states that despite facing similar problems and being of the same intelligence levels, Oppenheimer was recognized and went on to head the Manhattan Project. At the same time, Langan worked odd jobs well into his forties and continues to earn his keep. A man whose journey is genuinely inspiring, Chris Langan is a man of many talents, with extreme intelligence being only one of them. Having worked several odd jobs, he is currently leading a double life of...

Langan accepts the theory of evolution, but believes it could not be responsible for the specified complexity of the biodiversity that we see today. He believes on various levels that intelligence is responsible for the evolution of life, the ultimate level being "GOD" or the Global Operator Definor (or Designer), which is compatible with the monotheism found in the God of the Bible. He even believes there is a logico-mathematical explanation for the phenomenon of a "messiah", which suggests Jesuswasn't the only one; however, he describes his personal approach as "logical theology" in his words,

Langan's support of conspiracy theories, including the 9/11 Truther movement and the white genocide conspiracy theory, and his opposition to mixed-race relationships, have contributed to him amassing a following among members of the alt-right. Langan not only claimed that 9/11 was carried out by George W. Bush, but that the motive was to prevent the world from learning about his theory, the CTMU. In 2018, Langan wrote an obituary on Facebook for Koko the gorilla, in which he argued that the Western world should be admitting gorillas as immigrants instead of Somalis, claiming that gorillas are more intelligent. Posts such as this one have been popular on neo-Nazi forums including The Daily Stormer, Stormfront, and Vanguard News Network. Langan's high IQ score has also contributed to his popularity among the alt-right, whose members often subscribe to the belief that intelligence is based on racial characteristics. Langan's views have been described as racist and antisemetic by journa...

Langan describes the CTMU as a metatheory or a theory about how theories are made in general. The subjects he covers belong to the fields of epistemology and meta-mathematics. The main concept in the CTMU is "telic recursion" which differs from standard Markovian recursion in which the next state is only determined by the current one, but that the next state is also determined by the path it took to get to that state as well as the rest of space and time, so the state-transitional syntax of every part is ultimately determined by the "syntactic unisect" of the whole, which he identifies with "teleology", the relationship between the logic of the parts and the whole with "hology" and the theological or metaphysical system this implies as "holotheism". Critics point out this model is kind of a semantic game. In an interview, Langan was asked if nonconsciousness exists, and if that question is the same as the nonsensical question: "Does nonexistence exist?" Chris Langan answered, "Consc...

Under the handle Asmodeus, Langan and his partner have been caught repeatedly trying to positively skew the Wikipedia article covering him and the CTMU. Exhibiting his typical highly aggressive style of combative dialectiche attempted to brow-beat everyone who edited the page; this eventually led to him being topic banned.
