City History. Nestled in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, the City of La Cañada Flintridge is a unique and beautiful place to live, work and play. Incorporated since November 30, 1976, the City is a “contract city.”. It has a small full-time staff and contracts for many of the services provided to its citizens.
Tourism. La Cañada Flintridge is a semi-rural community located only 13 miles north of Los Angeles. Despite its location on the country’s second most populous metropolitan area, it manages to hold tight to its equestrian/hiking/bicycling culture that has been years in the making.
La Cañada Flintridge is a city of about 20,000 people (2018) at the extreme northwest end of the San Gabriel Valley in Southern California.
La Cañada Flintridge means “glen between the hills.” We were incorporated as a general law city on Nov. 30, 1976. A low-key lifestyle centered on children and community is central to the city’s 20,501 residents. The La Cañada Unified School District consistently ranks in the top five percent of California schools.
The Chamber aims to foster and promote programs designed to improve the City of La Cañada Flintridge as a desirable community in which to live, raise a family and do business, and to provide educational opportunities designed to expand the knowledge of the local business community.
