  5. Apr 12, 2014 · In November 1965, Colonel Francis A.I. “Miki” Bowers, Jr. became the first commander of the 1st Battalion, 487th Field Artillery Regiment, 29th Brigade. He remained the commander for over three years. In 1968, Colonel Bowers and the 1-487 FA received activation orders and deployed to Vietnam as part of the 29th Brigade mobilization.
