El nombre habitual de Confucio en chino mandarín es Kǒngzǐ, literalmente «Maestro Kong», aunque muchas veces se escribe «Kung Fu Tse».Una variante de este nombre, poco habitual actualmente, es Kǒng Fūzǐ, de la que se deriva el nombre tradicional en español —a partir de la forma latinizada Confucius— [9] que le dieron los misioneros jesuitas.
