Corazon Aquino (January 25, 1933–August 1, 2009) was the first female president of the Philippines, serving from 1986–1992. She was the wife of Filipino opposition leader Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino and began her political career in 1983 after dictator Ferdinand Marcos had her husband assassinated.
