Nov 15, 2020 · COVID-19 is affecting communities across Massachusetts differently. The interactive map below shows coronavirus cases per capita by city and town, with overlays representing ethnicity, income and density of homes.

- WHAT THIS MAP MEANS. In early November, the Department of Public Health changed how communities would be categorized. While original method considered only the average daily positive test rate per 100,000 in population, the new method also takes into account the total population of the community and the positive test rate.
- Under 10,000 population: Grey: Less than or equal to 10 total cases. Green: Less than or equal to 15 total cases. Yellow: Less than or equal to 25 total cases.
- Population 10,000-50,000: Grey: Less than or equal to 10 total cases. Green: Fewer than 10 average daily cases per 100,000 in population and more than 10 total cases.
- Population over 50,000: Grey: Less than or equal to 15 total cases. Green: Fewer than 10 average daily cases per 100,000 in population AND more than 15 total cases.
Massachusetts unveiled its long-awaited interactive, searchable coronavirus dashboard on Monday, making some of the state’s thorough data on the pandemic more accessible to the public. See the dashboard here. The data on Monday showed the state has confirmed more than 375,000 COVID-19 cases through the course of the pandemic.

There are 17 in this map, an increase from the 13 in last week's map, which included data from Aug. 23-Sept. 5.
