Starting June 6, 2022, there will be a two-week blackout period where the CDC National Center for Health Statistics will not be returning death certificates submitted by states for coding purposes. On January 1, 2022, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) began using a new COVID-19 outbreak definition. It changed the smallest number of cases needed to classify an outbreak from 2 cases to 3 cases and accounts for the increased use of self-test kits/at-home tests.
