Sep 26, 2022 · Decatur, GA — City Schools of Decatur is launching three new task forces, one of which will focus on how the school district addresses dyslexia. Director of English Language Arts and Social Studies Courtney Simon will be leading this team. The school system will seek teachers, parents, and community members to serve on this team.
Nov 30, 2022 · Director of English Language Arts and Social Studies Courtney Simon said that culturally responsive education refers to “the combination of teaching pedagogy, curriculum, theory, attitudes, practices and instructional materials that centers students’ culture, identity and context through educational systems.”
May 10, 2022 · At the April 26 school board work session, Courtney Simon, director of ELA and social studies, along with elementary school teachers, gave an overview of the district’s reading program. CSD has adopted the American Reading Company curriculum, and is monitoring the development of Expeditionary Learning and the IB units of inquiry, Simon said.
Following Jennifer and Amelia’s presentation, City Schools of Decatur present the work they are doing to raise dyslexia awareness and promote Structured Literacy in the schools. Gail Hardwick is one of CSD’s Literacy Coaches and Courtney Simon is CSD’s Director of ELA and Social Studies.
