Fort Baker is home to many tasty morsels including salmon and Red and Rock crabs, which migrate from the ocean to the bay to lay their eggs. The young crabs then hide in the rare offshore eel-grass.

  3. Aug 15, 2023 · Red and Rock crabs are OK, not so with Dungeness crabs. Last but not least is the excellent crabbing that can be had at the pier. In fact, often times there are more people crabbing than fishing.

  6. View from Fort Baker, across the Golden Gate bridge from San Francisco. We like to use what we call granny grocery getters or small wheeled carts for pier crabbing. Most can accommodate a 5 gal bucket inside and you can stack your oversize gear on top of that.
