The spangenhelm (literally spangen helm or ‘braces helmet’) has its origins back in ancient times. One of the first attestations for this helmet design dates to the reign of the Emperor Trajan (98 -117).
Great Helms, often known as the ‘crusader helmet’, dominated the battlefields during the 12th to the 14th centuries. Characterized by their cylindrical or barrel-shaped design, these helmets offered maximum protection for knights, especially during jousts and tournaments.

Another type, not common to knights but still a choice for some, was the kettle hat - a conical helmet with a wide brim.
Our Crusader Helmet is a bascinet helmet in design. This was arguably the most popular helmet design of the entire Middle Ages: emerging in the 13 th -century, it was used in various forms until the end of medieval warfare well into the 1500s.
