The City of Crystal City was founded for the purpose of making glass. It is located along the Mississippi River in Jefferson County, approximately 27 miles south of St. Louis, Missouri. Around 1843 an Eastern company conducted a search in this area of Missouri, looking for land with valuable minerals.
