European manufactured alternators may require connection of an excitation wire to the D+ terminal. This requires an incandescent low-wattage globe to be connected between ignition and D+. The globe usually doubles as the alternator charge warning light. If the globe fails the alternator will not charge.
Mar 27, 2015 · The voltage is too low to push much amperage. There’s a fairly easy and inexpensive diy fix. You solder a couple diodes on the D+ wire that powers the field in the alternator. This makes the alternator put out a higher voltage of around 14.4 and pushes a lot more amps into the battery.
(-): Ground Connection (GND) D+: Engine Alternator Signal (Activate Door Locks) The ARP must be wired in-line with the +12VDC going from the battery to the screw terminal. This drawing does not show the 3rd terminal, if you have the 3-terminal block, please see the RM1350 drawing.

The alternator senses the voltage and regulates it at 14.2volts at the alternator output terminal. The diode drops the 0.3 volts so now we only have 13.9 volts trying to push charging current through the battery. The battery will never reach the potential full charge because we lost that 0.3 volts.
