The Eagle Mk1, commonly referred to as the Eagle T1G, was a Formula One racing car, designed by Len Terry for Dan Gurney's Anglo American Racers team. The Eagle, introduced for the start of the 1966 Formula One season , is often regarded as being one of the most beautiful Grand Prix cars ever raced at the top levels of international motorsport. [1]
An impressive 157 Gurney Eagles were built between 1965 and 2000 for AAR’s own racing team and for customers. Eagles won on the Formula 1 circuit, at the Indianapolis 500, 12 Hours of Sebring, and 24 Hours of Daytona, as well as in many national and international championships in open-wheel and sports-car racing.
Of course it says 'Eagle', it is the vestigial beak of an Eagle. This was something that caught the fancy of the motorsports designers and the public. The car was both light and strong, the magnesium chassis with its titanium exhaust system was as light as any 12-cylinder car.
