Sweet helped define a major era of fantasy art, and given the enormity of the body of his work, I am saddened that he never received a major award for his efforts. Perhaps it was simply a case of being overlooked while in plain sight.

Darrell K. Sweet (August 15, 1934 – December 5, 2011) was a professional illustrator best known for providing cover art for science fiction and fantasy novels, in which capacity he was nominated for a Hugo Award in 1983. Sweet was born in Highland Park, New Jersey. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1956 with a degree in fine arts.

Sweet passed away on Monday morning .”. I looked at her, those silky blues eyes staring back at me as if to ask what she should do.
