William David Hanna was born at home on August 31, 1941 to Harry Zeal Hanna and Kathleen Lenox Simmons. He was the youngest of twelve children and grew up in the family home on the North Side of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As a child, he enjoyed sketching in his free time.
