While DC is gearing up for Future State, a two-month-long crossover that reveals the state of the DCU ten years into the future, the publisher also has ambitious plans for what comes next. Beginning in March 2021, DC will launch a number of new ongoing series and welcome new creative teams on existing titles. The goal is to give readers a fresh jumping-on point in the aftermath of Dark Nights: Death Metal and Future State, even if DC isn't rebooting its continuity this time.
While the full scope of DC's March 2021 relaunch is still being revealed, several of these books were just announced at CCXP in Brazil. Keep reading to see all the new comics and creative teams revealed so far, and keep checking back as more announcements are made.
Update: Justice League, Superman and Action Comics have been added to the lineup.
Creative Team: Brian Michael Bendis & David Marquez
While DC has yet to confirm, writer Brian Michael Bendis strongly hinted he'll be reuniting with Civil War II artist David Marquez on Justice League. Bendis posted a teaser image on Instagram, which teases a new team roster combining familiar faces and unusual choices like Hippolyta, Black Adam and Naomi.
Creative Team: Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Phil Hester, Scott Godlewski & Daniel Sampere
With Bendis seemingly leaving both flagship Superman titles in favor of Justice League, The Last God writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson will be taking the reins of both books. Johnson is debuting in March with a two-part story running across both titles titled "The Golden Age." DC is also teasing a future Superman collaboration between Johnson and artist Mikel Janin, so his role on these two books may be temporary.
Creative Team: James Tynion IV, Sam Johns, Guillem March & Mirka Andolfo
The Clown Prince of crime is getting his own monthly series spinning out of the events of the Joker War crossover. The main story follows an international manhunt for Joker led by none other than Commissioner Gordon, while the backup story focuses on Joker's incarcerated sidekick Punchline.
Creative Team: Andy Schmidt & Kieran McKeown
The DC multiverse will still exist after Death Metal, and that includes a brand new incarnation of Earth-3, the world where familair heroes have been re-imagined as cruel villains. This six-issue miniseries will flesh out this rebooted version of the Crime Syndicate and their tenuous alliance.
Creative Team: Ram V & Mike Perkins
DC is finally giving Swamp Thing his own monthly series again, the first for the character since the New 52 Swamp Thing comic ended in 2015. The new series pairs Justice League Dark writer Ram V with Lois Lane artist Mike Perkins. Little is known about the plot of the series, but the cover art for Swamp Thing #1 shows what appears to be Swamp Thing emerging from the body of Alec Holland, suggesting DC may be hoping to reestablish the two as separate characters again.
Creative Team: Ram V & Xermanico
DC has also confirmed the monthly Justice League Dark series will be continuing after Future State, with Ram V remaining on board as writer and Injustice's Xermanico coming on as artist. It's unclear whether the series will continue its current renumbering or relaunch with a new #1 issue, and it remains to be seen how significantly the team roster will change.
Creative Team: Becky Cloonan, Michael W. Conrad & Travis Moore
The monthly Wonder Woman series will continue on with its current numbering, but the series will welcome a new creative team as of March's Wonder Woman #770. Becky Cloonan (The Punisher) and Michael W. Conrad (Doom Patrol: Weight of the Worlds) will write the series, with Travis Moore (Nightwing) drawing the first story arc. The art seen above hints at a more ensemble-focused approach to the series. Interestingly, it appears both Yara Flor and Nubia will remain active in the franchise post-Future State, the clearest sign yet that this crossover will have a lasting impact on the DCU.
Creative Team: Tim Sheridan & Rafa Sandoval
Future State: Teen Titans writer Tim Sheridan and artist Rafa Sandoval are sticking with the franchise in March, as they're spearheading a new ongoing series called Teen Titans Academy. The title suggests the series will explore the origins of the Titans' superhero school featured in the Future State era. We'll be interested to see if the comic book debut of Red X in Future State: Teen Titans plays into this new series.
Creative Team: Geoffrey Thorne & Tom Raney
Grant Morrison and Liam Sharp are ending their run on The Green Lantern in March, and DC will be debuting at least one new GL book in its place. Future State: Green Lantern's Geoffrey Thorne and Tom Raney will reunite for New Green Lantern. It remains to be seen which character or characters will headline the series, though the Future State series will emphasize John Stewart rallying the Corps after the Central Power Battery goes out.
