Suicide by hanging is the intentional killing of oneself via suspension from an anchor-point such as an overhead beam or hook, by a rope or cord or by jumping from a height with a noose around the neck.
Hanging, if properly performed by dropping a victim who is noosed by the neck, causes death by "breaking the neck." This action causes immediate death by rupturing the spinal cord at the base of the skull. Consciousness fails so rapidly that awareness of pain fails and memory of the pain cannot form.
In the final days of 2006, former Iraqi ruler Saddam Hussein was hanged for the 1982 murders of 148 people in Dujail, Iraq.
When looking at why people choose to hang themselves, researchers have found that many hanging "suicides" are actually accidents that happened during sexual play. Autoerotic asphyxiation, or cutting off their oxygen while masturbating to enhance sexual pleasure, can often lead to passing out.

The upside is that it's not a gory death. It WILL be painful, but mostly just puking and possibly shitting all over yourself. And your chances of survival are much greater than a shotgun suicide (to say the least). Your chances of survival depend upon whether your roommates find you soon enough.
By partial suspension I mean that you hang yourself around the neck (specifically the carotid artery), and push downwards while kneeling. This should create enough downward pressure on the ligature to tighten it and close the carotid artery and stop the blood flow to your brain.
I always thought that when one hangs themselves they break their neck and die. I guess that’s a best-case-scenario, and typically, not the case. Hanging is actually a form of suffocation which not only cuts off the supply of oxygen to the lungs but restricts the arteries that carry blood to one’s brain. Both can cause asphyxia.
Short drop/suspension hanging achieves death by cutting off the oxygen supply to the brain and body (asphyxiation) and/or the compression of the arteries (carotid and vertebral) and veins (jugular) in the neck. It requires little or no drop, as death is achieved simply by constriction of the trachea and/or the blood vessels.
May 19, 2013 · Kneel down and wrap the belt around your neck. Then pull the belt as you feel comfortable as you like. You will feel where all your major arteries (carotid/jugular) are pumping. Then you get tunnel vision in a few seconds, a euphoria just before you black out and your forehead hits the ground.
