1. ( n.) A variant of Fere, a mate, a companion. 2. ( n.) A painful emotion or passion excited by the expectation of evil, or the apprehension of impending danger; apprehension; anxiety; solicitude; alarm; dread. 3. ( n.) Apprehension of incurring, or solicitude to avoid, God's wrath; the trembling and awful reverence felt toward the Supreme Being.

Fear in the Bible, as in common parlance, is used in many ways, all of which fall into two categories. In one it is beneficial; in the other baneful. Hence, fear is either friend or foe. In its natural sense, innate fear serves as an alarm system, or an arousal, alerting one to impending danger.

Oct 2, 2021 · While the Bible indeed does tell us to fear God, it doesn’t mean that we’re to be in terror or Him, shrinking from Him and even fleeing from Him. What we should fear, however, is His judgment, and this is why God has made a way for people to escape His judgment by receiving His salvation.
Sep 27, 2023 · 1. Proverbs 1:7. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and discipline” (CSB). This is the starting point for developing an appropriate relationship with fear. In this context, fear is not about being scared but showing proper respect and reverence.
It leads to wisdom and understanding ( Psalm 111:10 ). Also, with the fear of the Lord is life and true rest ( Proverbs 14:27; 19:23 ). While fear of the Lord is a gift from God that greatly benefits us in life, the other kind of fear mentioned in the Bible is of no benefit at all.
