Found in 1917 on the muddy banks of the River Ganga in Didarganj city of Bihar, this statue has varying stories about its unearthing. One of the accounts states that the base of the statue was seen sticking out of the banks and eventually dug out, revealing the Didarganj Yakshi.
Dec 3, 2023 · It’s officially known as the Didarganj Yakshi (a word that denotes a goddess of nature) and stands at a height of five foot two, having been sculpted out of Chunar sandstone. Owing to the sculpture’s highly polished finish and detailed finery, many scholars date it to the Mauryan dynasty around the third century BCE.
