The most up-voted links then showed up on the front page of the website. Essentially, Digg was supposed to replace traditional newspapers by creating a “front page” of the internet.
Digg was the old Reddit before Reddit was Reddit. Reddit still existed, but Digg was bigger and more popular. It operated in a similar fashion with upvotes/downvotes on submissions and comments but didn't have user-created categories like subreddits, only pre-defined ones.
