Dmitry Mikhailovich (Russian: Дмитрий Михайлович; 1298 – 15 September 1326), nicknamed the Fearsome Eyes or the Terrible Eyes (Грозные Очи), was Prince of Tver from 1318 and Grand Prince of Vladimir from 1322 until his death in 1326, when he was executed in Sarai by the Mongols.
Tver's most notable industries are rolling stock manufacturer Tver Carriage Works, opened in 1898, an excavator factory, and a glass factory. Tver is home to Migalovo, which is one of Russia's biggest military airlift facilities.

The Principality of Tver (Russian: Тверское княжество, romanized: Tverskoye knyazhestvo; Latin: Tferiae) was a principality which existed between the 13th and the 15th centuries with its capital in Tver. It was one of the states established after the decay of the Kievan Rus'.
Although Tver suffered from civil war during Vasily’s reign (1346–67), it was strong enough by 1368, under Michael II, son of Alexander, to join Lithuania and challenge Moscow’s dominant position. Dmitry Donskoy decisively defeated Michael in 1375 and forced Tver to acknowledge Moscow’s suzerainty.

If not for the princely cruelty and cunning, the main city of Russia could be located much further north. Judging by the first mention in the annals, Tver is 12 years older than Moscow.

Already in the 12th century a fortress appeared at the mouth of the Tvertsa River, which was destined to become the prototype of Tver. In 1246 Tver became the capital of the Tver principality.
