Founded in 1949, the UCLA School of Law is the third oldest of the five law schools within the University of California system.. In the 1930s, initial efforts to establish a law school at UCLA went nowhere as a result of resistance from UC President Robert Gordon Sproul, and because UCLA's supporters eventually refocused their efforts on first adding medical and engineering schools.
