The Dom DeLuise is our cannoli-inspired cupcake, which was really a “must” for us for reasons beyond the fact that we’re from southwest Brooklyn. In the weeks after we first met, I told myself the reason I thought about Matt a thousand times a day was because for the first time ever, I had a friend who was as obsessed with food as I was. It absolutely wasn’t because we were both madly in love with each other, as every person who knew both of us had already figured out. I’m not that smart. Sue me. One day I learned we were both off from work and decided to go out and buy him a bunch of my favorite foods “just because.” I showed up at his house with a huge bag of antipasto, a pan of chicken parmigiana, and a box of my favorite dessert—cannoli. We ate nearly everything I brought while hanging out on the couch and watching old episodes of Full House. (How in God’s name did I not realize I was in love with this guy? Al, you are so, so stupid.) While I was oblivious, Matt wasn’t. I’ll let him tell you the next part. Dom Deluise's Vegetable Stew

In the recipe description it said that this is one his mother's recipes. He states that it is very economical and was eaten frequently in his home growing up. Placed here for safe keeping, but sounds great! This recipe would be a great "springboard" so to speak, as you could easily add in zucchini, green beans, turnips, corn, you name it! He suggests serving with a hot loaf of bread. This is a very BASIC recipe, just as my mom would have made it with little to no seasoning. I personally add 1 tsp or more of Italian Seasoning as well as about 1/2 tsp of Seasoning Salt and then Tobasco sauce to taste. GREAT comfort food.
    Simple Puttanesca Sauce

This vegan recipe is the simplest Puttanesca Sauce I've found. From Dom DeLuise, who attributes it to Caterina Valente. Good with vermicelli.
    Dom's Broiler Roasted Red Peppers
    Food.com
From Dom DeLuise. What makes this different from other roasted pepper recipes is that the juice is saved and added to the marinade. You can use all red peppers, or a combination of colors. Time include standing time for peppers but not chilling time.

Dom DeLuise, who passed away on May 4, 2009, was not only a great comedian. He was also an excellent cook. Here is one of his recipes. You can use any kind of Italian sausage you prefer. Be sure not to cover the pan, or the vegetables will be steamed. Serve with hot Italian bread.
    P.r.soup (Potato Rice Soup)

A Dom Deluise recipe. This actually dates back to the Depression era. It's inexpensive, tasty and good for you. Make sure you use uncooked rice in this recipe. Serve with additional grated cheese. Note: I've read the reviews and adjusted the liquid.
    Mamma's Escarole Soup
    Food.com
That's Dom DeLuise's Mamma. The recipe originated in Spinosa, Italy. If you want a carnivorous variation, you can some spareribs and/or Italian sausages with the garlic, and brown well before adding anything else. To make this completely vegetarian, use vegetable stock in place of chicken stock. You can add water or a little more broth if the soup is too thick. Serve with hot Italian bread.
