In their later years, Ives and Paul lived in a waterfront home in Anacortes, Washington, in the Puget Sound area, and in Galisteo, New Mexico, near the Turquoise Trail. Ives later divorced Elrich in 1971 and then he later married Dorothy Koster Paul later that year. Dorothy had 3 children Bonnie, Steven, and Stuart from a previous marriage and Ives is a step-father to them. Burl and Dorothy remained together until his death in 1995. Ives’s son Alexander also died in 1995 at the age of 46.
