Edgar Kennedy. Edgar Livingston Kennedy (April 26, 1890 – November 9, 1948) was an American comedic character actor who appeared in at least 500 films during the silent and sound eras. [1] [2] Professionally, he was known as "Slow Burn", owing to his ability to portray characters whose anger slowly rose in frustrating situations.

Edgar was truly America’s first “sitcom” star who played himself in 103 two-reel shorts produced by RKO Radio Pictures between 1931 and 1948 that convulsed audiences two decades before “I Love Lucy.” In each short Edgar is surrounded by a zany dysfunctional family, including a ditzy wife, meddling mother-in-law and shiftless brother-in-law.
