Maja Einstein (born Maria Einstein, married name Maja Winteler-Einstein) (18 November 1881 - 25 June 1951) was a German Romanist and the younger sister of the physicist Albert Einstein . Known to family and friends as Maja, she not only physically resembled him but as children they were best friends.
On November 18 in 1881 Albert Einstein’s (1879–1955) sister Maria – called Maja – was born in Munich. Her Jewish parents, Hermann Einstein and Pauline Einstein, nee Koch, had moved from Ulm to Munich in June 1880 with their two-year-old son Albert.
Albert Einstein was raised in a secular Jewish family and had one sister, Maja, who was two years younger than him. In 1903 Einstein married Milena Maric, a Serbian physics student whom he had met at school in Zürich. They had three children: a daughter, named Lieserl, and two sons, named Hans and Eduard.
