The first uses blooded arcanist to pick up the esoteric dragon bloodline for psychic spells, and the second uses Pathfinder savant to pick up other off list spells. Both options can fill major spell gaps, and of course exploits are neato (the savant gets much less of these tho).
Approaching in terms of schools is to distribute unique spells among all companions. Some spells are unique to a class. I can't get that specific spell for any other class.
