On 27 January 2021, it became apparent that Eli's creator was banned from Discord, and thus, Eli bot was dying out. At that time, however, Eli's commands were still fully functional. It would be soon that one by one Eli's functionality would break down and Eli would slowly die.
On 31 January 2021, HHR issued an announcement briefly clarifying the issue and explaining that at the moment it was uncertain about what would happen to xp levels, but Eli bot was planned to be replace with other bots for the time being and possibly a Mio bot that will have the same functionality as Eli.
Carl-bot, renamed to Ton-chan, took over for Eli in #welcome on 3 February 2021 after Eli continually failed to display a welcome banner.
Eli seemed to be fighting to stay alive, as on 4 February 2021, Eli commands miraculously became functional again. However, that was short-lived.
On 9 February 2021, all of Eli's commands ceased to function, and its server chunks/cohorts (shards) were all down in the red. On 10 February 2021, Mayo issued an announcement explaining that Eli was recognized as defunct. He announced that the admin team had shut down the #verify channel, that there was default Discord verification, and that roles are not working for the time being.
The last full Eli Leaderboard appeared on 9 February 2021.
Eli comes back from time to time appearing spontaneously in chat to return her command. Her response rate was observed to be about 26 hours after the command was issued by a user.
On 13 February 2021, Eli's commands were fully functional once again. However, Kurylo explained in #notice-board that "she will completely stop functioning on Monday" (15 February 2021). "This decision has been made by the owner as she is unable to continue working on Eli and does not want to pay for further hosting for the bot. Till the replacement has been made, we will have to live without Eli from Monday onwards!"
On 17 February 2021, it was announced that Eli would cheat death for at least a month longer. Kurylo explained that Eli's owner paid for an additional month of hosting, perhaps to close the gap between Eli and the replacement bot Mio.
On 14 May 2021, members began to notice that Eli was no longer online. This was more quickly noticed by members of smaller servers with Eli where the offline list was shown, but the information spread quickly. Several users panicked and tried to use the "eli rank" command, but to no avail. Two days later, Violet issued an announcement stating that ...
A user asks for a link to the Eli bot support server, but gets replies that the bot is dead and the support server is inaccessible. Another user suggests trying the new bot Mio, which has some features of Eli, but is not verified yet.
