Her parents were Bogislaw V, Duke of Pomerania and Elizabeth of Poland, (died 1361). Her maternal grandparents were Casimir III, King of Poland and Aldona of Lithuania.

He was the only son of Duke Bogislaw IV of Pomerania and his wife Margareta, a daughter of Vitslav II, Prince of Rügen. Vartislaw IV had four sisters: Jutta, Elisabeth, Margareta and Eufemia.
