She was born September 29, 1942 in Egypt, Arkansas to Henry Arnold and Helen Cook Arnold. Mary was a lifelong resident of Jonesboro and a faithful member of Old Enterprise General Baptist Church.

Since 1995, Burnis has called Jonesboro home. Burnis was a jack of all trades and had many careers throughout his life.
