Entamoeba coli, E. hartmanni, E. polecki, Endolimax nana, and Iodamoeba buetschlii are generally considered nonpathogenic and reside in the lumen of the large intestine in the human host. Both cysts and trophozoites of these species are passed in stool and are considered diagnostic . Cysts are typically found in formed stool, whereas ...

Aug 23, 2023 · Entamoeba coli, similar to other Entamoeba specifies, has three distinct morphological forms: trophozoite, pre-cystic stage, and cystic stage. The trophozoite form, which measures 20 to 25 μm, is minimally mobile. [23]

Several protozoan species in the genus Entamoeba colonize humans, but not all of them are associated with disease. Entamoeba histolytica is well recognized as a pathogenic ameba, associated with intestinal and extraintestinal infections. Other morphologically-identical Entamoeba spp., including E. dispar, E. moshkovskii, and E. bangladeshi, are gen...
Cysts and trophozoites are passed in feces . Cysts are typically found in formed stool, whereas trophozoites are typically found in diarrheal stool. Infection with Entamoeba histolytica (and E.dispar) occurs via ingestion of mature cysts from fecally contaminated food, water, or hands. Exposure to infectious cysts and trophozoites in fecal matter d...
Pathogenic Entamoeba species occur worldwide and are frequently recovered from fresh water contaminated with human feces. The majority of amebiasis cases occur in developing countries. In industrialized countries, risk groups include men who have sex with men, travelers, recent immigrants, immunocompromised persons, and institutionalized population...
Entamoeba species all come in monogenetic forms, or having one generation lifecycles. E. coli has "three distinct morphological forms exist airing the life cycle-Trophozoite, Pre-cystic stage and Cystic stage". This lifecycle gives rise to the general way of how Entamoeba species form.

Figure E: Mature cyst of E. coli, stained with trichrome. This figure and Figure F represent the same cyst shown in two different focal planes. Eight nuclei can be seen between the two focal planes. Also, above the cyst in this figure, a trophozoite of Endolimax nana can be seen.
The trophozoite is 10 to 60 µm in diameter, ameboid, actively motile, and often erythrophagocytic. In stained specimens, the nucleus has a central karyosome with finely beaded peripheral chromatin. The cyst form is rounded, 10 to 20 µm in diameter, with one to four nuclei showing the characteristic appearance.
