Oct 31, 2011 · I had the same problem in my EP-L1, the blinking red IS icon and the rattling sound on start-up. I sent the camera to Olympus repair center and they replaced the whole IS module. My camera was still under warranty so I don't know the exact cost of the repair.

The image stabilizer cannot correct excessive camera shake or camera shake that occurs when using an extremely slow shutter speed. When attaching the camera to a lens with its own image stabilizer function, turn off the image stabilizer function of either the lens or the camera. Back to Questions.

Dec 14, 2010 · Even if you turn of the simulated sound you can sometimes hear the aperture and auto focus systems (which are very quite but they don't work as a shutter) Instead most point and shoots simply read individual pixal data very fast while light isstill falling on the sensor (an electronic solid state shutter).
