What We Believe. The mission of The Episcopal Church, as stated in the Book of Common Prayer’s catechism, is “to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ.” In step with that mission, we follow Jesus into loving, liberating, and life-giving relationships with God, with each other, and with the earth.

WHAT DO EPISCOPALIANS BELIEVE. The Episcopal Church has many influences, but three stand out: Scripture, tradition and reason. Our beliefs are succinctly captured in the Baptismal Covenant. SCRIPTURE. TRADITION. REASON. THE BAPTISMAL COVENANT.
Episcopal Beliefs. The word “episcopal” refers to governance by bishops. The historic episcopate (bishops) continues the work of the first apostles in the Church: guarding the faith, unity and discipline of the Church, and ordaining men and women to continue Christ’s ministry.
What Episcopalians believe is simple, to some extent, but not simplistic. A true answer might be to say that we believe in God, in Jesus Christ the Son of God, and in the Holy Spirit. But in our world today, full of division and uncertainty, many people find that simple answer unsatisfying. After all, don’t ALL Christians believe those things?
As Episcopalians, we believe: The Holy Scriptures are the revealed word of God, which inspired the human authors of the Scripture, and which is interpreted by the Church under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Nicene Creed is the basic statement of our belief about God.
