The Swiss started to make their own lugers inn 1918.According to Fred Datig in “The Swiss Variation 1897-1947″ on page 49, the first delivery of wholly Swiss made Lugers to the Swiss army was in Nov 1918 beginning at serial 15216. Numbers of 1900 AE, 1902 AE, & 1906 AE made.

The finish on this model is rough; and as the war progressed in 1917 and 1918, the finish got worse. There were many thousands produced with one- to five-digit serial numbers, some with letter suffixes. Exc. $1500.

On the left is the frame and barrel matching serial numbers. Military Lugers were numbered 1-10000 and then 1a-10000a, 1b-1000b, and so on. To properly identify your Luger always use the full serial number with the alphabet identifier.
Jan 21, 2024 · If my calculation is correct, your 1917 Erfurt Luger would have been number 170,016 produced by Erfurt that year. That assumes that 10,000 were made in each block, no blocks were skipped and all blocks were filled completely to 10,000. Remember that the first 10,000 did not have a suffix letter and the letter j was not used.
Sep 23, 2003 · 1911 ERFURT, DETAILS & HISTORY. Erfurt Lugers were manufactured from 1911 to 1918 by the Prussian Government owned Erfurt Arms Factory for the Imperial German Army. During 1911 Erfurt manufactured 10,000 Lugers in the no suffix serial range. These are reported in the 1 to 9548 serial range and were manufactured without hold open or stock lug.

The rear sight on the toggle has been dove tailed in, and If memory serves me correctly the sights are actually machined out on the toggle and are not removable. I've been wondering for years if it was once an artillery gun.
Jan 17, 2011 · question on 1918 Erfurt P08 Luger I bought a Luger 9mm P08, marked "Erfurt 1918", late in 1988. It has matching numbers, 3407, or the last one or two digits ("07" or "7") on everything except for the magazine and is in really nice condition with a good bore and sharp rifling.
