The first two Dwarf Race Cars were built in Dec. 1979 and early 1980. The Dwarf Race Car idea came about after Ernie Adams and Daren Schmaltz had attended motorcycle side hack races in Phoenix, Arizona. During the drive home, Ernie expressed concern that three-wheeled racers were to slow in the corners.

It was Adams who started the dwarf-car racing phenomenon. He built the first dwarf race car. His friend Daren Schmaltz soon built another. The vehicles were steel-bodied, powered by motorcycle engines, and were an instant hit in the first race at the 1983 Yavapai County Fair. Adams became one of the original owners of the Phoenix-based Dwarf Car Co...

Apr 2, 2019 · — Ernie Adams[/quote_box_right] Adams, now 78, has turned nine old, discarded refrigerators into an amazing life. Adams, who lives south of Maricopa, is the creator of eight street-legal dwarf classic cars. He’s also the inventor of Dwarf Car Racing, now called Legends Racing, which has become a national phenomenon.
Adams recently turned 82 but looks much younger, his 6-foot frame nearly as lean as in pictures taken decades earlier. You’ll find him at the museum almost every afternoon, answering questions from visitors who come to marvel at the detail and craftsmanship of his miniature classic cars.
