Jul 26, 2011 · This made for TV movie was pretty good for network television. Based on true events, the Escape of the Birdmen was in some ways a watered down Hogan’s Heroes where the commandant (Basehart) and the major (Doug McClure) have a mutual understanding and this is not played often enough. I really liked their cat & mouse conversations.
