Aiko described "Spotless Mind" as being the easiest song to write; the song was written while Aiko was touring with Lauryn Hill and Nas in 45 minutes using GarageBand. Aiko also revealed that "Eternal Sunshine" and "Spotless Mind" titles were inspired by the 2004 film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
