Benjamin "Ben" Hayes is the tritagonist of Peter Jackson's King Kong 2005. Hayes is a soldier veteran from World War One and a sailor of SS Venture. Being the first mate and trusted officer to Captain Englehorn, he was a close friend with Jimmy, Bruce, Choy, and Lumpy.

Hayes sailed aboard the Venture realising their true destination, and confronted Carl Denham about the Skull Island. He discovered that their compass was acting strangely leading the ship to hit some reefs and rocks in the night. The next morning, Hayes awoke and discovered that the natives had abducted Ann Darrow, and a rescue party was launched.

Hayes now has a strong sense of duty. With his leadership, he often talk things out before they will move on. Together as a team, Hayes often have a weaponry knowledge during their quest from the Skull Island. When Ann Darrow was given to King Kong, Hayes further lead the search party alongside Jack Driscoll.

Hayes continued helping Jimmy and Jack. He led the rescue party protecting his friends and family. Hayes encountered many prehistoric creatures and once again-the legendary giant gorilla ,Kong. Hayes honourably and honourfully met his tragedy. A legacy pushing the rescue team to keep moving forward.

They respected him as a figure and an friend whom are all deeply saddened by his news. Benjamin Hayes was also portrayed by Evan Parke. An actor, comedian, entrepreneur, and writer. Throughout the year 2005, Evan voiceover Hayes in Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie.

Before Hayes became the Venture's first mate, his past as a World War One veteran is mentioned, that; he was trained and awarded as a drill sergeant. This in turn gave him a good knowledge on weaponry.

Hayes was a soldier, he had fought in the trenches of World War One with the 369th infantry, otherwise known as the Harlem Hell-Fighters. At the insistence of his father and grandfather, the racial divide closed more.

Hayes and his platoon saw the most active combat of any U.S. soldiers; but were not recognized when they returned home. But the French government awarded them the Croix de Geurre.

While at sea, Hayes took the orphan Jimmy and took it upon himself to act as the boy's tutor. Hayes had him work out of an old school workbook. Hayes wanted Jimmy to be able to escape his life at sea with an education.

But unfortunately for Hayes; when he returned home a long time ago, he was met with more violence than; when he had left, and so he went to sea to prevent himself from experiencing his trauma on the past.

During the arrival of his friends, he told a fascinating story to Jack Driscoll. Hayes did found Jimmy in the Venture's being held some years before. His arm broken in two places, and wilder than half the animals on the ship.

Hayes knew that Jimmy couldn't have come from somewhere good because of how he was and tried to encourage him to get educated and not want to spend the rest of his life onboard the Venture.

The experience proved too traumatic for most of him. Hayes was now frustrated, and still respected Englehorn; but he knew that; even honorable men could make mistakes. Fearing what might come next, the safety of the crew.

As the first mate for the Venture, Hayes took the ship out of the harbor and believed he was sailing for Singapore. One night, he went to the cargo hold to see if Jimmy had run the ropes he had asked him to up to the deck. Jimmy tried to escape the situation, but Hayes caught him and made him return writer Jack Driscoll's pen. He apologized for the boy, and told Driscoll he would try to keep him out of his way and that he hadn't meant any harm.

He then recounted how he had found the boy four years prior, in 1929, stowed away in one of the cages in the cargo hold with a broken arm. Hayes then went to the deck to implore Jimmy to take his education seriously, but the boy was unreceptive. However, as it continued, Jimmy came to him with news that the ship was really headed for a place called Skull Island, and so he and Lumpy went to confront the director. They warned him with stories told to them by a castaway.

Seven years before, Hayes and Lumpy were paying their passage by working aboard a Norwegian barge. They found a castaway who had been adrift for days after his ship wrecked on a mysterious island. He spoke of a hundred foot tall wall built to keep out a monstrous creature. The next morning, they found that the man had stuck a knife in his heart. Denham was unfazed.

Hayes continued to steer the ship, and one night got word from Englehorn to set a course for Rangoon to turn Denham over to the authorities. They then discovered that their compass was malfunctioning, and Hayes went to map a course using the stars only to find no stars in the sky and informs Englehorn about this. As rocks began appearing all around the ship, Hayes and Englehorn frantically tried to steer away, but the ship was scuttled on a gigantic carving in the water.

Hayes quickly began helping to repair the damaged hull, but he was taken away from his work by Jimmy, who came to show then that Denham had taken a lifeboat to shore. That night, while lightening the ship by throwing everything overboard, Jack Driscoll revealed that Darrow had been kidnapped by the natives. Unfortunately, they were too late to keep her from being taken into the jungle, and they arranged a rescue party to retrieve her. Jimmy tried to join them, but Hayes wouldn't have it.

A short distance into the jungle, the sailors began to fire wildly into the brush, and only stopped at Hayes' command. He lit a flare and the crew was immedeately attacked by a Ferrucutus, which thrashed the group before Hayes was able to kill it. Englehorn ordered them to continue their work with or without the film crew until they heard Ann Darrow scream from the shore, followed by an earthshaking roar. Hayes and the Captain then went ashore to rescue them.

Hayes appears in Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie as a supporting tritagonist. Thanks to his years in the army and weaponry knowledge, Hayes is an exceptional ally, always giving helpful advice, shooting successfully at hostile creatures and handing Jack appropriate guns when being called on. When Hayes is selected, he will throw Jack a gun while Jack throws his gun in return.

In the game he first appears as a follower in the level "The Venture" as he rows along with Briggs. As the rock falls on the boat and Hayes and the others survive, Briggs dies in the rock fall. As Jack is unconcious, Ann tries to wake Jack up, Jack witnesses Briggs dead body covered as Hayes sends a flare out to Englehorn knowing that he'll come looking for them in the seaplane. Hayes and Carl part ways with Jack and Ann after losing them on uneven paths.

After Ann is sacrificed to Kong, Hayes and Carl get separated but reunite in the aptly named level "Hayes", where he tosses Jack a Tommy Gun after clearing a path for him. Hayes, Jack and Carl later find Preston, Lumpy, Choy, Baxter and Jimmy as they're being attacked by a Vastatosaurus rex but are unable to save any of them.

Hayes and Carl part ways with Jack to let him find Ann before Kong catches up to her, meeting up later in the canyon where the brontos are migrating. In the rapids, Hayes figures out that by reaching the waterhole where animals gather to drink, they'll catch up to Kong. After being ambushed by Skull Islanders on the rapids, two V. rexes attack as Hayes accepts that: "Nothing's gonna kill these things".

"Jimmy. You run those ropes up on the deck like I told you?"

    "Dead slow ahead both, Captain."

"You gotta strengthen up. Jimmy, you don't want to be on the ship for the rest of your life."

"No, you don't, Jimmy. You gotta be smart. Get yourself educated! Give yourself some options! Take this seriously!"

    "Where did you get this?"

"How about return, Mr. Driscoll's pen first..."

    "Let go boys!"

"Hold on tight, this might get a little rough!"

"THIS IS TOO DANGEROUS! WE TURNING BACK!"

"DENHAM! LOOK OUT FOR THE ROCK! IT'S GONNA FALL ON US!!"

"The sea is too rough! We've just got to hope he saw us....if he did,he'll come looking for us with seaplane!"

"And just how do you know that, Denham?
