The use of origin in the phrase ‘family of origin’ is a little different. According to the definition of a family of origin, a family isn’t limited to a biological family.
The family of choice may or may not include some or all of the members of the family of origin. This family is not one that follows the "normal" familial structure like having a father, a mother, and children.
