Family Plot (1976) was Hitchcock's final completed picture and began filming on May 12th 1975 . According to several sources, the director wanted a generic Californian feel to the film, so locations were picked in both Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Partway through filming, Variety confirmed in mid-July 1975 that the film had been retitled Family Plot. [6] [7] Hitchcock, who often liked to specify the locales of his films by using on-screen titles or by using recognizable landmarks, deliberately left the story's location unspecific, using sites in both San Francisco and Los Angeles.
