    "What's Your Story?"

Morgan Jones decides to leave Virginia to escape from people and ends up in Texas where he meets John Dorie. They are both captured and are eventually rescued by Althea thanks to her armored SWAT truck rigged with machine guns. Morgan is injured during the scuffle. She offers them both rides in exchange for their stories of how they became what they are now. Morgan, still distant, tries to continue alone and is once more saved by the two. Morgan agrees to stay with them until his leg heals. Later, they come across Alicia's group consisting of Strand, Nick, and Luciana where her group holds them at gunpoint.

    "Another Day in the Diamond"

In the past, Madison's group live in a baseball stadium with a larger group and it thrives until their crops are overrun with weevils. Madison and Alicia meet Naomi on a run who tries to steal their car only to fall through the roof of an oil tower. Madison rescues her despite the previous threat and offers her a place at the stadium. Naomi agrees. Later that night, a group of raiders in caravans show up and give them an ultimatum, leave or they will wait for them to die off. They know about the weevils thanks to Charlie; a little girl Madison took in who secretly spied on them. Madison refuses the offer and leaves the group outside. In present, Alicia's group tells Morgan's group about the Vultures after they find one of their flags in the truck. They demand to know where Al found it.

    "Good Out Here"

Al unsuccessfully tries to extract info from the hostile group and take back her truck which ends up crashing. While the others look for a tow truck, Nick and Morgan stay behind. An El Camerio appears and Nick chases after it. He briefly remembers his mother as he passes a patch of bluebonnets and kneels beside them and is saved by Morgan from Walkers. Morgan tries to tell him that killing the people hurt him won't make it any better and even tries to convince the driver, Ennis, to run. However, Nick charges and kills Ennis. Later, Nick is shot by Charlie who runs as the rest of the group rush to save but he bleeds out.

On April 14, 2017, AMC renewed the series for a 16-episode fourth season and announced that Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg would replace the departing Dave Erickson as showrunners. Production began in November 2017 in Austin, Texas. Michael Satrazemis, a director of photography for The Walking Dead and director of 12 episodes, joined Fear The Walking Dead as a directing-producer.

In November 2017, it was reported that Lennie James who portrays Morgan Jones on The Walking Dead would crossover and join the main cast in the fourth season. The fourth season also sees the additions of several new series regulars, played by Garret Dillahunt, Jenna Elfman, and Maggie Grace.

On April 21, 2018, Colman Domingo revealed that he would be directing the twelfth episode of this season.

The fourth season features a redesigned title sequence with new theme music. Each episode of the season has a different title card, and tells a story which will become apparent once the season is completed. The Hollywood Reporter reflected on the new intro, calling the new season, "a Western with zombies, very much by design."

Goldberg spoke of the season's narrative structure, which features multiple timelines:

The new showrunners also were inspired by Westerns; Chambliss stated, "It all started with the themes we set out at the beginning: isolation and community. Those themes run through a lot of classic Western stories." Visually, the season is inspired by John Ford and Sergio Leone's Westerns, using Once Upon a Time in the West as a template for directors. Chambliss said, "it's all about having wide shots, not moving the characters, but moving the characters within the frame. When we get to the editing room, it's really about slowing down the cutting pattern, and harkening back to that style of filmmaking. It does infuse the show with a different feel than what we've seen before. It's something that we're very excited for people to see."

On March 15, 2018, it was announced that the season premiere and the season eight finale of The Walking Dead would be screened at AMC, Regal, and Cinemark theaters across the United States on April 15, the same day as the televised airing, for "Survival Sunday: The Walking Dead & Fear The Walking Dead". The episodes marked the first crossover betwe...
