Rio de Janeiro (pron. italiana [ˈrio deʒaˈnɛiro], letteralmente "Fiume di gennaio"; in portoghese [ˈʁi.u d(ʒi) ʒɐˈne(j)ɾu]) è una città del Brasile, capitale dello Stato di Rio de Janeiro, la seconda città del Brasile dopo San Paolo e prima di Salvador da Bahia e Brasilia.
The capital of Brazil was transferred from Rio de Janeiro to Brasília on 21 April 1960 and its new territory, split off from Goiás state on the border with the Minas Gerais state, became the current Federal District. After the transfer the old Federal District, containing the city of Rio de Janeiro, became the state of Guanabara.
The 2016 Summer Olympics (Portuguese: Jogos Olímpicos de Verão de 2016), officially the Games of the XXXI Olympiad (Portuguese: Jogos da XXXI Olimpíada) and also known as Rio 2016, was an international multi-sport event held from 5 to 21 August 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with preliminary events in some sports beginning on 3 August.
