The City (French: La Ville) is a 1919 painting by French painter and sculptor Fernand Léger. The painting is Cubist in style and is now in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Albert Eugene Gallatin donated the piece to the museum in 1952 and it has also been shown at the Guggenheim Museum.

The City, or La Ville to give it it's original French title, is one of Fernand Leger's most memorable Cubist paintings and was completed in 1919. The artist would have been in his late thirties at that time.
Fernand Léger, who was born in Argentan, Orne, Basse-Normandie in 1881, moved to Paris in 1900. He had been trained in architecture and began working as an architectural draftsman, and in 1902 studied at the School of Decorative Arts. By 1910, he was making work that combined the popular Cubist style with abstraction.
