The following is a list of notable events and releases of the year 2017 in Finnish music.
Finnish rock ( Finnish: suomirock or suomirokki —also known as Finnsrock, Finnrock or Finrock) refers to rock music made in Finland. The initial rock and roll boom of the 1950s was preceded by a long tradition of popular culture. Suomirock may refer to Finnish rock music in general or more narrowly rock music sung in the Finnish language.
- Nightwish. Nightwish are undeniably one of the most well-known bands from Finland, combining symphonic metal, power metal and gothic metal in their music.
- Children of Bodom. Children of Bodom were formed in 1993 the city of Espoo, near Helsinki. The name of the band comes from one of the most famous Finnish murder cases of all time (the murdering of three teenagers one night at Lake Bodom back in the '60s).
- HIM. Formed in 1991 under the name His Infernal Majesty, HIM invented their own genre called "love metal" and inspired a lot of bands to play music in a similar style.
- Amorphis. Amorphis were formed in Helsinki, Finland in 1990. They absorbed and incorporated influences from many metal genres. Initially, the band was a death metal act, but with time they have evolved into making music that is more classifiable as doom metal with folk influences, and, more recently, progressive metal and melodic hard rock, utilizing increasingly complex arrangements and a less brutal sound.

Finnish rock in Finnish. The rise of heavy metal was accompanied in the 90s by that of a new rock generation that sings Finnish lyrics. Before, rock sung in Finnish had been personified by the singer-songwriters that began in the 70s and the bands that emerged during the punk wave. Of these, Eppu Normaali is still a Finnish rock giant in 2005.
