Florence's cathedral stands tall over the city with its magnificent Renaissance dome designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, with the baptistery right across. The cathedral named in honor of Santa Maria del Fiore is a vast Gothic structure built on the site of the 7th century church of Santa Reparata, the remains of which can be seen in the crypt. Mar 24, 2019 · The cathedral of Florence is the center of the city. The Florence church dome is an incredible 107 meters high and has a diameter of about 45 meters. The church is a gigantic 153 meters long and is probably the longest church in the world. They wanted to build a church in which all inhabitants of Florence could find a place.

The Florence Cathedral is one of Italy’s largest churches! While standing in front of the San Miniato al Monte (Basilica of St Minias on the Hill) vista point you can truly see how massive this Florence Cathedral is to the rest of the city. Of course we went to the church on the hill, I’ll share photos of the incredible church in another post.
