The Fernbahnhof station is fairly new and, like most of Germany (and German train stations), clean! This Fernbahnhof station contains train lines that connect Frankfurt with most of Germany (Mainz/Wiesbaden, Hamburg, Dortmund, Cologne, etc) and other European countries (Austria, Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium).
Lufthansa Express Rail passengers are responsible for their baggage during the train journey until they drop it off at the AIRail terminal at Frankfurt Airport. On your return journey after landing in Frankfurt, you reclaim your baggage at the Lufthansa Express Rail baggage reclaim at the long-distance train station, take it through customs and then directly with you on to the train.
Frankfurt Airport is easily accessible from the A3, A 67 and A5 interstate highways. Rail. The regional train station (platforms 1-3) is located beneath Terminal 1. From here, S-Bahn commuter trains (lines S8 and S9) depart for Frankfurt’s central station (Hauptbahnhof). Trains also run to Offenbach, Hanau, Rüsselsheim, Mainz and Wiesbaden.
Level 0 of T1 - the underground level - leads to the train station for regional trains, located directly under the Sheraton Hotel and Frankfurt Airport Center, with a short connection to the AIRail Terminal for long-distance trains with check-in and baggage claim facilities.
